From “it’s complicated” to clarity.

Your work has depth. Explaining it shouldn’t be a ten-minute preamble. Clear messaging cuts through that complexity, helping people quickly understand what you do and how they can be part of it. We listen to your team, donors, and community to find the language that makes your mission clear.

You’ll leave with a Brand Messaging Guide your staff can use in grant applications, and your board can use the next time someone asks what you do.

We listen closely

Questionnaires and candid conversations uncover what your team does, who you serve, and what makes the work matter.

We find the throughline

We turn those insights into a clear voice, positioning, and core messages that reflect your organization.

Put it to work

Your guide gives staff, board members, and creative partners language they can use with confidence.

Questions, answered.

What does “messaging-first” mean?

Messaging-first means Liminal starts with the words that describe who you are, what you do, and why it matters before any design or website work begins. We build the brand and the site on that foundation, because design cannot fix a message people do not understand.

What is included in a brand messaging project?

A Liminal brand messaging project produces a core messaging framework of roughly 14 to 16 pages covering your mission, vision, values, problem and solution, target audiences, positioning, brand voice, and elevator pitch. We build it from interviews and surveys with your staff, board, and key supporters.

We just need a new website. Do we have to start with messaging?

Not always, but Liminal usually recommends it. A lot of the organizations that come to us for a website redesign find the deeper issue is a message visitors cannot follow in the first few seconds. We will tell you honestly if your messaging is already strong enough to go straight to design.

How long does the messaging process take?

A Liminal messaging project usually takes about two months. It can move as quickly as six weeks or take up to three months, depending on how fast your team completes interviews and surveys.

What is a discovery draft?

The discovery draft is Liminal’s first full draft of your messaging, usually about 70 to 80 percent of the way to final. We walk through it with you live, because your reactions to that draft are some of the most useful input we get.

How do you keep the message true to who we are?

Liminal builds your message from what your own people say, gathered through interviews and surveys, rather than inventing language for you. We often describe it as unearthing what is already there, so the words reflect the people behind the mission.
